Our First Date (Part I)

By Steve

Upon returning home from my mission in September '95, I wanted to get into the swing of things in life, so after taking a few weeks to figure out what my course of actions should be, I delved into the dating game. After a few serious and non-serious girlfriends, I decided to look up Dianne. She was a fun person to be around and not bad looking! Some time in the Summer of '97 I arranged a group date to see a new movie about a volcano (Dantes Peak) and asked Dianne to be my date. She agreed and seemed quite content to be my date. From the start I felt very comfortable around her and enjoyed her company.

While watching the movie, I knew she was one I wanted to keep around. At one point in the movie, two minor characters, a boyfriend and girlfriend, unwittingly decided to go swimming in a natural hot springs near the almost erupting volcano. Obviously a mistake by the characters, because the water temperature in the hot springs suddenly increased to a boil, killing both characters. During this seemingly serious, daunting part of the movie, Dianne leans over and whispers in my ear, "I bet his name is STEW!" I couldn't contain my laughter. She won a piece of my heart that night with that very clever comment.
