We got married last spring and I'll admit it can be an adjustment, but I have no doubt Steven and Dianne will be very happy. We are so excited for you both! We've been waiting anxiously for the day when our only brother would get married and I think he picked the perfect girl to join our family. Enjoy this time that you're making wedding plans - it's such a fun time, and savor every minute of your wedding day!

Erroneously cited as the "4th resident of Vanderbilt Palace" in the miscellaneous photos section (excuse me, I was the FIRST), I have decided to clear this matter up with a poem.

What Knave is This?
(A Palace Dog's Poem)

Many a courtly role I brave:
Indeed, I screen the visiting knaves
Who enter through the palace door
To court fair maidens they adore.

There came one day a bloke named Steve:
I sniffed him good, made him not leave.
A few good barks, he learned his place;
I let him stay, he needs no mace.

Above where sleeps this palace guest
A certain picture hangs at rest.
No Ex-lax doth the knave request!
I tell you true, I do not jest.

But listen, Steve, and listen well,
You called me “fourth”, you doggerel!
I am the First and Foremost Queen:
You dare forget my rank! How mean!

Well, truth be told, Steve is quite nice;
He’s slipped but once and has no vice.
He’s even cleaned the bathroom twice
And used my bed, and left no lice!
(Yup, the sofa sleeper is my day bed).

So Steve is first among the knaves
A palace maiden’s heart to save;
He’s quite a catch himself, we think,
Romantic, chocolate voice, we wink.

But listen, Steve, and listen well,
You may have scored the palace belle,
But ne’er forget again I’m Queen,
Not fourth, but first with all my sheen!

Words of advice:

You opened the web site to early---too much time---the sleeping doggerel can't remain penned up that long.

General Comments:

What follows proves my point. You need to remember that you have given us eight more months to compose this type of stuff.

Yes, it's the Dianne with the double n.
Who out of the entire world of men,
Chose the nerdy little Steve,
As the one to whom she'll eternally cleave.
Surely it's her head we need to examine.

---or---

Oh, for the sake of old Pete,
C'mon Steve the girl studies wheat!
No, it's not just an idle time pleasure,
Twenty-four/seven her plots she doth measure.
To small grains you'll always be second seat.

Words of advice:

Steve - Do take Dianne out to dinner, but don't let her order water in a Chinese restaraunt. Dianne - Do let Steve sleep late once in a while, but don't let him pick out any more ties...

General Comments:

As one of Dianne's housemates, I thought that I ought to share some insights about living with her. In bringing together my thoughts, I was inspired to write a poem!

Princess Dianne of Spic and Span

She sweats in a hot, dusty field all day ,
chasing after tractors, harvesting the hay
(Wheat, actually, but it doesn’t rhyme);
then comes she home still happy and gay
to bake four dozen cookies , but a nap? – No way.

And that’s not all from Spic and Span:
gotta scrub those counters and wash that pan ,
review the statistics program she ran
and get on the phone to talk to her man !

So now she’ll soon be walking down the aisle ,
a princess true with not a bit of guile ;
we sure are glad that she stayed for a while
and that she’s moving on with a great big smile .

Words of advice:

Marriage is not a word, it's a sentence. A life sentence.

General Comments:

Dianne is obviously an exceptionally wonderful woman---other wise Steve wouldn't have proposed---after all the negative comments about marriage that he has been subjected to here at the Micron office.

Actually they are both great and I wish them the best.

About the picture poll I voted for the bathroom because seeing it will keep Steve regular.

One question for Dianne about the picture--did you choose it because it looks like an abstract "D I". Just curious if you would like to be called Princess DI. I'd ask Steve but he probably wouldn't see the abstract and if he did he would tell me it stands for Deseret Industries (where he would like to donate it).

I'm so happy for you two! I can't think of a more perfect match. Well, Steve, she is a little out of your league, but you're very lucky to have found her and she'll be treated well, I'm sure. Oh, also, I think you two should extend the wedding date out a little bit longer. I'm all for encouraging long engagements. They're the best!
